"When a little boy asserts himself, he's called a “leader.” Yet when a little girl does the same, she risks being branded “bossy.” - banbossy.com

The Girl Scouts, along with partners such as Lifetime, Pantene and celebrities like Beyonce and Jennifer Gardner are coming together to #banbossy. This movement is to instill confidence in young girls and make them realize that being a female and a leader is perfectly normal in today's society.

However, only 19% of congress and 5% of Fortune 500 companies CEOs consist of females. Showing that although women are capable of leading, they are often sought out after their male counterparts.

I know that growing up I was called bossy at times--as are most girls I knew. Maybe it's because we wanted leadership positions, spoke up in class, refused to wear a dress, or told our siblings how to act. Maybe we just gave our true opinion.

I don't think it's right to bring someone down, especially when they are standing up for something they believe in. I know little girls take these words to heart, especially when it comes from role models, such as teachers and parents, so I think starting now to build confidence in little girls is a great way to build the future leaders of our world.
